The people of Esit Eket Local Government on Tuesday, went into wild celebration as Governor Udom Emmanuel, flagged off the construction of the 14.83km road in the area.
Performing the flag off of the construction of the road in the presence of the key leaders, traditional chiefs , women and youth groups of the area, the governor said that Esit Eket people stood by him all through the electioneering and are contributing meaningfully to the development of the state.
The State Chief Executive pointed out that the dualization of the new road was in fulfilment of the covenant he entered with the people.
Representing by the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, the Governor hinted that the project will be delivered in line with the specifications stipulated in the contract, assuring that, his administration was not playing politics with development of Akwa Ibom State.
He said all the roads in the area will come with double side drains to evacuate water and prevent washing away of the roads in the future.
Stressing that his government was determined to eradicate poverty, create wealth, reduce stress and burden of Akwa Ibom people and bring statewide development, Governor Emmanuel, sued for continued cooperation from the Leaders and people of Esit Eket. He advised the youths, not to disturb the contractor, or do anything that will undermine, or stall the road projects, so that, they can be completed on time.
Moved by high ecstasy and joy, the Paramount Ruler of Esit Eket, HRH Edidem Ubong Peter Assam, who earlier received the Governor at his palace, said, that this long awaited project could be embarked upon within two years of this tenure shows the positive focus of Governor Udom Emmanuel and indeed, a very good testimony of the expected dividends which will accrue to the yearning people of the State in the nearest future. The monarch who said the commencement of the road project was a dream come true for his people however, promised the support of Esit Eket people to the Udom Emmanuel led administration.
Also speaking at the event, the political leader of Esit Eket, Elder Benjamin Udobia, maintained that, the joy of the people knew no bounds on the flag-off for roads to be constructed, adding that, the he can now walk shoulder-high among his people.
Elder Udobia who was the Deputy Director of the Divine Mandate campaign Organization, which was the official campaign team of Governor Udom Emmanuel for the 2015 governorship election, said, he assured his people to keep calm that Governor Emmanuel will deliver, positing that, he he has been vindicated. Elder Udobia accordingly sued for continued support for the Udom Emmanuel led administration to deliver more dividends of democracy.
On his part, Hon.Emem Edukere, Transition Committee Chairman of Esit Eket, thanked the governor for finally visiting the council with good tidings. He gave assurance that Esit Eket people will continue to massively support the governor and his administration, until he completes his full tenure in 2023, harping that, Governor Emmanuel is their son, from the same Eket Federal Constituency.
On his part, the Member representing Esit Eket State Constituency, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, expressed appreciation on behalf of his constituents to the Governor for the gesture.
Akpanusoh who is the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, recalled that, Governor Emmanuel had pledged to construct some roads in Esit Eket, if the people voted him into office, noting that , the governor has lived up to his words by awarding contracts for the roads totalling 14.83km in the area. He assured the governor of the total support of the Constituency in his second term bid come 2019.
The epochal event which came to a perfect end with the flag-off the 14.83km, however, attracted the creme-de-la-creme of Esit Eket politicians, traditional rulers, youth and women groups.
