The Grand finale of the second edition/2018 Akwa Ibom Youths sports festivals, took place today at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium, Uyo, with Oruk Anam Local government area crowned the overall best.
Presenting the overall best trophy to the Council Chairman of Oruk Anam LGA, Hon Prince Ubong Idiong, the commissioner for Women affairs, Dr Glory Edet who represented the Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel at the closing ceremonies, commended Oruk Anam Local Government Area for retaining the trophy. The mouth piece of the Governor, after thanking other Local Government Areas for their participation, charged them to put more effort and start preparing now for the next edition.
In his remarks, after receiving the trophy, the Chairman of Oruk Anam LGA Hon Prince Ubong Idiong, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for creating a forum where School Children meet to showcase their sports talents. He expressed happiness and appreciated His School Children for their dedication.
Prince Idiong stated that emerging again as the overall best is not a surprise, but a result of proper preparations for the festivals. "That we have won this trophy again is not a surprise to me, it is in line with my ten points aspirational agenda. I promised to make Oruk Anam a sport shopping ground and I am happy that we have all seen the fruit of hard work". "This is just the beginning, more things are yet to come under my administration as the Oruk Anam Council Chairman" He added.
Also speaking was Hon Akan Udom, the Hon Councillor representing Oruk Anam Ward 4 and the Head of the technical Crew. Hon Udom returned all praises to the council Chairman for making his work easy by supporting him to deliver the task. He thanked all the children for their good moral conduct while in camp and for their strong zeal to win.
The school Children from Oruk Anam expressed their happiness to the State Governor, Oruk Anam LG Chairman and the Local organising committee for making possible for them to display their talents. In one accord, they chanted songs of victory with great enthusiasm and satisfactory display.
It could be recalled that Oruk Anam Local government won the first edition of the festival hosted in 2017.
