Ahead of the official opening ceremony of the 2nd Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival billed for Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Team Ikot Abasi made up of 402 athletes have arrived the state capital for the week long event.
Speaking from their camp, the Head of the Team's Technical Committee, Uboho Uko said that Ikot Abasi which also has six officials will be participating in 22 out of the 25 sporting events for the festival.
According to him with the support given by the present chairman of the council, David Eshiet, the team was determined to improve from their performance in the last edition which saw them finish 17th to contesting for the top spot this year.
Ikot Abasi was drawn bye in the football event for senior boys but will take on Essien Udim in the first round of the senior boys basketball meet while the girls will face Obot Akara.
In Volleyball, the team will play Abak in senior boys and Ibiono Ibom in senior girls at the West Itam Sports Centre among many other events all starting on March 6.
The star prize for this year is N10 million, runners-up N5 million while third placed team will go home with N3 million.
