Akwa Ibom State Government sues for support on Ibom Super Highway project

Work has commenced on the Ibom Super Highway project along Eket Ibeno road, which was flagged off in 2017 by the Akwa Ibom State government.

The 55.1kilometers highway with 3 spurs and multiple lanes is billed to open up to the Ibom deep seaport, and when completed, will open up the environment for investors, thereby creating employment opportunities for the teeming youths.

Addressing the youths of Eket and Ibeno at the project site, the Commissioner for Works, Mr.  Ephraim Inyangeyen appealed for support to enable the contractors carry out their work effectively.

Commissioner Inyangeyen charged the Youths of Eket, Ibeno and Mbo not to harass, intimidate or obstruct the contractor handling the project, Elba Construction company, so that they can the job may be delivered on time. 

He said all matters of compensation will be cleared within the next two weeks by the State government, so that the work can proceed with speed. Commissioner Inyangeyen revealed that, the project is made possible through the Alternative Funding Approach, AFA, whereby, the contractor sources his capital to fund the project while government pays later. 

He therefore warned against placing the contractor under unnecessary pressure or demands by the benefitting communities. 

Stakeholders in Eket including the chairman, Mr. Frank Archibong were on ground with the commissioner to address the youths.

Member representing Eket state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. David Lawrence and the Youth Leader for Ibeno, Mr. Iboro Usen appreciated the state government for creating avenue for investment in their areas.

They also pledged the readiness of the community members to collaborate with the contractors for them to expedite action on the project.

The lead contractor, Mr. Chinedu Chukwuonye on his part promised to carry the youths of the area along in the road construction.
