Sports Commissioner inspects camp facilities,.. Reads riot act
Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Akwa Ibom State, Sir Monday Ebong Uko leads a team of Ministry top officials and newsmen to inspect facilities at the two designated camps for participants in the forthcoming Akwa Ibom Youths sports festival. Sir Uko expressed satisfaction at the state of affairs at Community Secondary School, Aka Offot and Cornelia Corneli College, Afaha Oku, Uyo.
Commissioner Uko further revealed that all security agencies in the State have been contacted and are ready to provide security cover for the Sports festival. He thanked the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the Director of State Security Services, Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Army and the Federal Road Safety Commission for their commitment to assist the Ministry succeed.
He maintained that all logistics including, Healthcare services, identification tags to avoid infiltration by miscreants, transport and other contingency plans have been perfected to avoid any hitches in the games.
Commissioner Uko disclosed that, he will lead Ministry of Sports officials to worship in the Qua Iboe Church, 112 Ikot Ekpene Road to commit the event into God's unfailing hands,and invited sports enthusiasts and all people of goodwill to attend and support the State Government's bid to host a successful outing.
Over 12,000 students and pupils are expected to participate and compete in the various games, including indoor and outdoor activities.
Commissioner Uko read the riot act to Local Government Areas that recruit over aged athletes who are not students to get undue advantage, stressing that, they will be disqualified and barred from participating in the event.
