INSECURITY: AKSG BANS MOTORCYCLES FROM 10PM

INSECURITY: AKSG BANS MOTORCYCLES FROM 10PM
Motorcycles have been banned from operating in Akwa Ibom State from 10.00pm to 6.00am henceforth. This was made known on Saturday the 1st of May, 2021 in a public notice signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government.

The statement reads in part thus:

“The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel has directed as follows:
1. That the use of Motorcycles from 10pm till 6am is hereby banned.
2. That this restriction covers all types of motorcycles without exception(power bikes inclusive).
3. That this ban which takes effect immediately, is daily and statewide.
4. Security agencies have been directed to strictly enforce this directive.”

It further states that “while regretting the inconvenience that this decision may cause law abiding citizens, the decision is a product of considered reasoning, taken in the overall interest of the security of lives and property, which is the primary responsibility of any government.”

Recently, police formations in some local government areas of the state have been attacked by criminal elements with police personnel suffering some casualties. It is the opinion of some residents of the state that the ban is not unconnected with this worrisome trend as criminal elements are said to operate on motorcycles during ungodly hours.
